In dieser Folge von Begegnungen im Börseviertel erzählt der weltbekannte Künstler Gottfried Helnwein von seiner Faszination für Wien, seine Wurzeln in der österreichischen Kultur und seine Entscheidung, Kunst im öffentlichen Raum zu platzieren. Er reflektiert über den künstlerischen Prozess, seine Konfrontation mit Gewalt in der Gesellschaft und den Widerstand, den seine Kunst oft hervorruft. Ein Gespräch über Freiheit, Empathie und die Verantwortung der Kunst.

Er ist einer der bedeutendsten österreichischen Künstler: Der Schockmaler Gottfried Helnwein wird auch bei der Kulturhauptstadt Salzkammergut 2024 für einen Höhepunkt sorgen. Er verhüllt Häuser in Gmunden, zudem wird es eine Ausstellung geben, wie wir bereits berichteten.

An den Gerüsten, die ständig einen Teil des Doms verhüllen, wurde schon viel affichiert. Aber noch nie solch ein aufwühlendes, dem Humanismus verpflichtetes Sujet wie Gottfried Helnweins “My Sister”.

The most complete monograph realized about the Austrian painter, photographer, filmmaker, performer and set designer, born in Vienna in 1948. The works of Helnwein show the bare truth where society instead hides and removes. What emerges by leafing through the pages of this monograph is the obsession that accompanies the artistic career of this notable Austrian artist, marked by the wish to breakdown the rhetoric of war, the constructions of self-absolution, the mystifications of religious institutions in whose pitfalls men periodically fall as if they had not committed the same mistake over and over again.

Gottfried Helnwein, der in den 1970er-Jahren mit schockierenden Plakatsujets auftritt, nimmt eine spezifische Rolle in der österreichischen Kunst ein, allerdings hat auch er schon früh Affinitäten zum Aktionismus. Er thematisiert das Individuum als das von äußeren gesellschaftlichen Zwängen malträtierte und damit leidende Wesen. „Mit dem Thema der Leidensdarstellung hat sich Gottfried Helnwein seit jeher beschäftigt. In den 1970er- und 80er-Jahren setzte er häufig auf den spektakulären Schock der Übertreibung, auf Provokation, auf groteske Formen und grimassierende Mimik von gequälten Individuen.

Opium nights at Le Bateau-Lavoir, the dilapidated artists’ residence on the Rue Ravignan in Montmartre, often took place in Pablo Picasso ’s studio. The 24-year-old painter, his girlfriend Fernande Olivier, and one or more of the other artists and writers who lived in the building could be found lying on straw mats around a small oil lamp that cast ghostly shadows on the canvases of sad-eyed acrobats and voluptuous blue nudes stacked against the walls. In a world fractured by the war machines of capitalism and exploitation, it is all-too-easy to feel distant from the stories of violence that pervade our media and political histories. However, as the renowned artist Gottfried Helnwein has shown in his courageous and provocative work, it is extremely difficult to ignore the suffering of a child, whose pain and stolen innocence exposes the failure and cruelty of the system.

S IS FOR... SEHNSUCHT The cover art for the band's second album was created by Vienna artist Gottfried Helnwein, who was responsible for the Scorpions' 1982 cover art for Blackout. In a possible nod to this classic sleeve, individual portraits show the band to be wearing kitchen utensils as partial masks. Although being Rammstein, it probably represents something different entirely.

The world can be a frightening place with all the horrors of war, exploitation and poverty. But we're often guilty of turning a blind eye to what's happening all around us, unless of course we're confronted with a child's own suffering – that's when we're inclined to really sit up and take notice. It's perhaps why renowned artist Gottfried Helnwein paints youngsters in his provocative works, showing their pain and stolen innocence to remind us of our societal failures.

Was there something that you had in mind as visual inspiration? V: One of the visual inspirations was an Austrian artist, Gottfried Helnwein. How do I describe his art... a pop artist? The European interest in Donald stems more from the character’s appearances in comics books than his original form as an animated star, and the documentary includes input from his comic-obsessed fans, among them Austrian painter Gottfried Helnwein, Norwegian author Øyvind Holen, and French cartoonist/Métal Hurlant co-founder Jean-Pierre Dionnet, as well as Duck comic artists on both sides of the pond like Don Rosa and Volker Reiche.

Sonntagvormittag herrschte großer Andrang in der Albertina. Maler, Aktionist und Bühnenbildner Gottfried Helnwein lud zu seiner Buchpräsentation, und auch Schauspielerin Iris Berben reiste aus Deutschland an. Sie hat sogar vor Jahren eines seiner ersten Bilder gekauft – „Das Osterwetter“, das auch in der Retrospektive in der Albertina zu sehen ist. Für sie ist der Ausnahme-Künstler ein „Kompass, ein Leuchtturm und ein Komplize“.

Konsequent und virtuos. Technische Meisterschaft und auch die Konsequenz einer packenden sozialkritischen Thematik offenbaren sich in dieser Ausstellung: Gewalt, Schmerz, Verletzung werden dargestellt. Den Körper ebenso wie die Psyche betreffend. Helnwein dokumentiert hier in Linz einen künstlerischen Reifegrad, der eine weitere Steigerung kaum vorstellbar macht. Todavía recuerdo cuando a principios de los '80 descubrí a Scorpions, ese potente grupo de rock alemán que en 1982 lanzaba su octavo disco: "Blackout". Además de ese sonido que con el tiempo se hizo tan popular, el trabajo presentaba una llamativa portada. Luego me enteré que se trataba de una fotografía de Gottfried Helnwein, autorretrato de un artista que con el paso de los años se ha establecido como uno de los más destacados en el panorama del arte figurativo, controvertido por sus imágenes de niños heridos y referencias a Hitler y el Nazismo. No es fácil resumir en unas cuantas imágenes la carrera de Gottfried. This is a student project for the course "Urban Graphics", for which is required to design the identity and graphic materials of the exhibition of Gottfried Helnwein and create a public awareness campaign throughout the city on key locations.

Credo che scrivere un articolo su Gottfried Helnwein sia una delle cose più difficili al mondo.  E' una leggenda contemporanea e il fatto che in Italia ci siano così poche cose che parlano di lui sottolinea sempre più il fatto che qui l'Iperrealismo ha pochissima diffusione. Helnwein è un pilastro di questa corrente.  La sua intera vita sembra quasi una leggenda, la storia di un artista che ha lottato ad ogni costo per la sua arte. 

Gefangen in der täglichen Konfrontation mit Blut und Gewalt fungieren diese Werke als ein Sprachrohr gegenwärtiger Generationen. Anlässlich seines 65.Geburtstags widmet die Albertina diesem polarisierenden Künstler seine erste Retrospektive in Europa. In über 200 Arbeiten aus allen Werkphasen lässt sich das Schaffen der letzten vier Jahrzehnte nachverfolgen. Ein genial-verstörendes Panoptikum, das nicht nur inhaltlich sondern auch formal ein Spektrum bietet, das neben der Malerei auch ausreichend Raum für seine bekannten fotografischen Arbeiten einräumt.

Er inszeniert seine Kunst als Abwehrkampf gegen seine Umwelt. Er stellt mit seinen Werken Fragen, die wehrlos und betroffen machen. Das Ganze wird durch das scheinbar wahllose Auftauchen von Comic- und Fantasiefiguren auf die Spitze der Absurdität getrieben. Figuren, die in der heutigen Populärkultur allgegenwärtig sind, werden plötzlich bedrohlich und treffen auf Szenen des Krieges. Aus diesen Gegensätzen wird ein Spannungsfeld erzeugt, welches nicht nur den Betrachter anzieht, sondern auch das Oeuvre von Helnwein prägen.

m Vorfeld seiner ersten großen Retrospektive führte Gottfried Helnwein ein Künstlergespräch mit Rainer Nowak, Chefredakteur "Die Presse".

Described by Norman Mailer as “one of the few exciting artists we have today,” Gottfried Helnwein is represented by his epic, The Red Gun (Lot 293), one of the most striking and resonant works of art LAMA has ever had the privilege to exhibit. The titular weapon may strike one as an item exhibited in evidence, a gigantic, corroded artifact, newly recovered from some demonic lake years after a terrible crime.

As its title suggests, Gottfried Helnwein and the Dreaming Child chooses to focus on the Austrian art superstar that the Opera brought in to make its sets and costumes. The movie’s fortunate that said superstar, an eccentric with a thick Werner Herzog accent is as good as he is at painting.

The collaboration between Helnwein and the late poet and playwright Hanoch Levin is at the center of this documentary. Helnwein is hired as the production designer for an Israeli opera adaptation of Levin’s play, Dreaming Child. While the two had never met when Levin was alive, the opportunity to meld their work seems almost serendipitous. Helnwein believes their artistic vision is so much the same that he is obligated to stay true to Levin’s work. Director Lisa Kirk Colburn does an excellent job of portraying the process of an original opera production, particularly from the eyes of Helnwein, the production designer chosen specifically for the perspicacity he has for his art form.

Helnwein's vision of how to visually present this opera has created a world that many may find hard to look at. I expect that is exactly his goal. It should be hard to look at the way children are so easily discarded or forgotten. The opera, the art, and the film all serve to remind us not only of the deep sin of the Holocaust, but of the many ways such crimes against children continue day by day. We may want to turn away, but to ignore the problem is to allow it to grow.

Helnwein has produced an impressive body of work, largely informed by the horrors of the Holocaust. It was the themes and sensitivities of his oeuvre that inspired the Israeli Opera to commission Helnwein’s designs for an ambitious new production. Lisa Kirk Colburn documents the visual artist’s sometime dramatic collaborative process in Gottfried Helnwein and the Dreaming Child (trailer here), which opens this Friday in New York. In a telling historical irony, Helnwein was accepted by the art academy that famously rejected Hitler. Coming of age at a time the Holocaust simply was not discussed in Austria, Helnwein discovered the truth on his own. The revelation profoundly influenced his work both as a student and a mature artist. Images of children in various states of vulnerability reappear over and over in his photo-realist paintings. Not surprisingly, Helnwein had a deep affinity for Hanoch Levin’s allegorical play, The Dreaming Child and its Helnweinesque title character.

Mein erstes Stilvorbild ist der Maler Gottfried Helnwein, den ich seit meinen Teenager-Tagen sehr verehre. Das hat natürlich hauptsächlich mit seinen künstlerischen Fähigkeiten zu tun – aber ehrlich gesagt hat mich sein konsequenter Stil, den er einmal entwickelt, schon seit Jahrzehnten so oder so ähnlich trägt, auch sehr beeindruckt. Wer sich jetzt fragt: War Lagerfeld oder Helnwein das Huhn oder das Ei, das zuerst mit so viel Schmuck und getönter Brille rumlief, dem kann ich mit der Antwort helfen: Es war Helnwein.

México, 18 Oct. (Notimex).- El Museo Nacional de San Carlos exhibe a partir de hoy “Fe, esperanza y caridad”, trabajo pictórico y fotográfico del austriaco Gottfried Helnwein (Viena, 1948), uno de los más polémicos de su generación y quien se presenta por primera vez en México y Latinoamérica.

Gottfried Helnwein es un multidisciplinario artista austro-irlandés nacido en los años siguientes al fin de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Como él mismo describe, la época no era la mejor para crecer y vivir una infancia feliz. A partir del 18 de octubre, presentará en la Ciudad de México tres exposiciones simultáneas en el Museo San Carlos, el Monumento a la Revolución y la Galería Hilario Helguera.

Gottfried Helnwein, considerado como uno de los artistas más polémicos y desconcertantes de su generación, por sus representaciones de niños heridos, ensangrentados, despojados de su inocencia, así como por su trabajo plástico donde explora la época e ideología nacional-socialista, exhibirá su obra por primera vez en México, en el Museo de San Carlos, del Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes. La retrospectiva Fe, esperanza y caridad, que se presentará a partir del 18 de octubre en el recinto ubicado en Puente de Alvarado núm. 50 Colonia Tabacalera, se integra con 34 obras y fotografías realizadas ex profeso para esta ocasión: fotografías que el artista austriaco tomó en el Museo Nacional de San Carlos a niños de nuestro país para después intervenirlas, así como con una selección de sus series Epifanía, El murmullo de los inocentes, Autorretratos y Los desastres de la guerra, entre otras.

Con la intención de reflexionar en torno a la situación humana, Helnwein, quien se caracteriza por representar en sus obras a niños heridos, ensangrentados, despojados de su inocencia, exhibirá 34 fotografías realizadas exprofeso para la ocasión. De acuerdo con el Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes (INBA), en la muestra también se mostrará una selección de sus series “Epifanía”, “El murmullo de los inocentes”, “Autorretratos” y “Los desastre de la guerra”, entre otras.

La pintura de Helnwein abreva de un universo que antecede a las formas. Tal vez sea el estado propicio, la ebriedad, el universo en el que Dioniso, como lo afirmaba Nietzsche, predispone al cuerpo a vivir otros estados, eterna transfiguración, instante: como lo intuyó Roberto Calasso, “el falo de Dioniso es alucinógeno antes que impositivo”. El triunfo de la forma es el instante elegido por el artista, el trazo se realiza, la suerte está echada. Ese trazo, en la obra de Helnwein, ha recorrido muchos caminos: origen, mito, religión, historia, infancia, estado de disposición, trayectoria angélica. Cada una de las obras crea en sí un palimpsesto, genera pliegues que en ocasiones nos cierran las entradas y en otras las abren dispuestos por su fragilidad, no oponen resistencia, se dejan violentar por nosotros, incluso podemos destruirlos. No hay reclamo, el dolor es voz callada, mirada inocente, ángel que se deja atrapar.

Pasa el verano en Irlanda y el invierno en Los Ángeles. En Europa, el artista Gottfried Helnwein (Viena, 1948) reside en un país idílico, paradisíaco, con el paisaje más verdoso que jamás ha visto. La otra mitad del año vive en Estados Unidos en una ciudad decadente que lo confronta con el mundo real y le permite medir el avance del colapso de la civilización occidental. Esta dualidad que el austriaco busca deliberadamente se refleja también en sus obras hiperrealistas, donde a menudo captura la inocencia, la pureza y la belleza de los niños, pero a la vez los representa ensangrentados o heridos, como se observa en la retrospectiva Fe, esperanza y caridad, que a partir de hoy puede verse en el Museo Nacional de San Carlos.

La galería mexicana Hilario Galguera de Ciudad de México acaba de incorporar a sus representados al artista austriaco Gottfried Helnwein (Viena, 1948), cuya obra se puede ver, por primera vez en México, en la muestra titulada "El canto de la Aurora". El mismo artista es objeto, también en la capital azteca y dentro del Museo Nacional de San Carlos -donde ya se han expuesto antes otros artistas de Galguera, como su amigo el británico Damien Hirst-, de una retrospectiva de su obra titulada "Fe, esperanza y caridad", bajo comisariado de Susan Crowley, curator del High Museum of Art de Atlanta. Además, en el Monumento a la Revolución de la Plaza de la República, se encuentran 4 gigantografías de fotografías de niñas mexicanas tomadas en mayo de este año por el austriaco. Este mismo trabajo se encuentra en formato pequeño dentro de una nueva galería en el primer piso del Monumento.

Dans mon récit, j’ai l’intention de présenter des œuvres de Gottfried Helnwein dans lesquelles il aborde le sujet du nazisme. Cependant, même si le rapport au nazisme dans l’œuvre d’Helnwein est au cœur de ma propre curiosité, il n’est pas nécessairement au centre du travail de l’artiste. D’après ma compréhension, la référence au thème du nazisme dans l’œuvre d’Helnwein fait partie d’un contexte plus vaste de sa vision du monde, que je vais présenter. Si on ignore la totalité de son œuvre et si on se concentre uniquement sur ces nombreux travaux où il parle du nazisme, on risque d’avoir une vision partielle de plusieurs niveaux d’analyse qui sont inhérents à sa pensée. Je vais traiter non seulement les sujets qu’il a choisis d’aborder, mais aussi le contexte historique de sa création qui est aussi significatif en regard de ses choix. Pour des raisons de clarté et afin de mettre en relief mon intérêt personnel pour la représentation controversée du nazisme dans l’art contemporain, je vais traiter séparément les œuvres au sujet du nazisme, sans ignorer naturellement le contexte de leur création.

Austria, por ejemplo, presenta "Deseando lo real", una colectiva de arte contemporáneo y que actualmente se exhibe en el Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo (MUAC); además se prevé que se monte una gigantografía del artista de performance austriaco-irlandés Gottfried Helnwein; se celebrará a Gustav Klimt, pionero del modernismo, con un compendio que aborda su vida y obra, y Polonia, destacada en el desarrollo del diseño, montará carteles publicitarios en relación a la ópera.

Meisterwerke des 19. bis 21. Jahrhunderts sind im LENTOS Kunstmuseum in wechselnden Ausstellungen zu finden. Große Namen wie Klimt, Schiele, Warhol und Helnwein bieten ein weitgefächertes Spektrum zeitgenössischer Kunst. Der elegante Glasbau liegt direkt am Donauufer, wo genau gegenüber das nicht minder spektakuläre Ars Electronica Center errichtet wurde.

During a time of social upheaval abroad and labor protests in America, we should ask: why do citizens, especially young people, so seldom act to leverage their power, assemble for protests, and build organizations to reclaim the possibilities offered by a future in which democracy matters? Essendo austriaco la sua ossessione per le uniformi naziste non poteva che tirargli addosso qualche sospetto, se poi l’altra ossessione sono i bambini, rappresentati nei quadri, nelle fotografie, nelle mega-installazioni in (e con) una follia e una violenza che prima che far riflettere disturba – e tanto – i ben e i non-pensanti, aggiunta ad una lunga collaborazione con l’ex-incubo delle mamme apprensive e fuori dal tempo di mezzo mondo (Marylin Manson), a chilometri di bende fatte indossare ai suoi figli in “autoritratti di famiglia” che dire sui generis è usare un eufemismo, a rassicuranti icone disney rese più inquietanti di un incubo, a performance rosso sangue, a scenografie teatrali che sembrano state concepite all’inferno, a strumenti chirurgici gelidamente splendenti, Gottfried Helnwein non è un artista per tutti e infatti in rete, nel magico mondo dei blog, re-blog, nelle cataste di (poco sensate) mappe mentali su tumblr, nell’orgia di immagini di ffffound, non si vede molto spesso.

Aceptemos pues que Minera acierta al cuestionar la “nostalgia” de los jóvenes, pero no al hablar del no querer ver al “futuro” pues lo que ella llama ver al “futuro” es una opción de herramientas que el artista puede o no aceptar en la búsqueda de un arte que hable de su propia actualidad. Igual de obsoletos son cientos de performance que cuestionables los intentos hiperrealistas de llevar la técnica al extremo sin valores conceptuales, pero como se puede negar los avances de artistas que se entienden a sí mismos como integrales, usando herramientas del conceptualismo y poniéndolas al servicio de la pintura y viceversa, ahí se tiene a Bill Viola bebiendo no solo de una tradición religiosa sino de una estética pictórica, pero quién niega que Gottfried Helnwein ha alcanzado, en la pintura realista un espacio donde lo conceptual y la técnica hacen un equilibrio en obras de múltiples lecturas, que funcionan además como una crónica de nuestro tiempo. Bacon y Freud nunca fueron descalificados, prueban ambos que la búsqueda plástica no ha terminado y corresponde a la complejidad del pintor la complejidad de la obra, y a un equilibrio con su técnica la elaboración de poderosas respuestas plásticas a cuestionamientos contemporáneos. ¿Daría lo mismo que fueran una fotografía?

The first is Gottfried Helnwein’s Epiphany II.  The painting is 210 cm x 310 cm long. Gottfried Helnwein is an Austrian-Irish painter, installation and performance artist.

He estado investigando acerca de los abusos a niños en Alemania; he visto cientos de fotografías de cuerpos de niños muertos, cuerpos de niños torturados hasta la muerte, en su mayoría por sus propios familiares. Son imágenes que jamás podría olvidar. En ese sentido, mis narraciones visuales hablan de la lucha de la existencia humana, y los niños, sin duda, son los héroes de esta historia”. I recently went to Crocker Art Museum here in Sacramento to visit the Gottfried Helnwein exhibit that is currently on display. Titled Disasters of War, Helnwein bases much of the artwork in the exhibit around the theme of children. The exhibit is very dark, moody and provocative. Many of the pieces involve children covered in blood, bandages, or are just psychologically intense poses. It is amazing how quickly one is forced to open their eyes and see the ugliness that can be caused by humanity. Truly, Helnwein jolts his viewers out of complacency.

Most of the art in the new Crocker proved beautiful and thought-provoking, but the art that caught my attention the most was Gottfried Helnwein’s exhibition: “Inferno of the Innocents.” Like many people who have seen Gottfried Helnwein’s exhibition “Inferno of the Innocents,” I did find the works to be disturbing and even stomach-churning at times. However, I also found myself having a great appreciation for Helnwein’s work because there is so much truth in the “mirror” he is holding up to our society: We live in a violent, sick world filled with hatred, war, and discrimination, which is exactly one of the reasons why I may not end up having kids someday; the notion of not being able to protect my future children from the aforementioned dangers in the world we live in is another thought that makes me feel sick in and of itself. So, yes, Gottfried Helnwein may easily be perceived as “one sick motherfucker,” but he’s also a brilliant, talented artist who dared to create something that needed to be said in a visual form, no matter how uncomfortable the final product would make our society feel. I have to say that I have a lot of respect for Gottfried Helnwein’s work, and a lot of respect for the Crocker Art Museum for showing that Sacramento is not afraid of the avante-garde.

The interviews are really visceral which marries well with the physical format of the magazine. The winner for me was the section on Gottfried Helnwein; unnerving, twisted and beautiful. Unfortunately, I finished reading the WHOLE magazine… the first, second…and third time.

Ultimately, Helnwein's art explores the human condition through pain, fear and the forces of war. It is visceral and unnerving. Because Helnwein grew up in a post-war German speaking country, much of his art references the Holocaust (for example, in his recreation of the famous "Adoration of the Magi," the infant Jesus is surrounded by five SS officers). His work is so controversial that, unfortunately, it has been protested, defamed and even confiscated by the police.

Gottfried Helnwein isn't just an artist. He is an inspiration, a voice, and his masterpieces will capture your eyes and touch your soul. His art has been around for decades, and it was truly a pleasure to discover his work. amfm had the opportunity to see some of his most striking and beautiful pieces up close at the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento for their latest exhibit "Inferno of the Innocents" featuring the artist. When you walked into the exhibition it was as if the mood shifted from the hustle and bustle of simply checking out art, to gazing at a piece in awe of it's wonder.

These pieces of art are large and alarming! A good artist makes the viewer "feel" their works, and this artist 100% succeeds at doing this. We all walked out of this room feeling like we've been hit by a truck and the enjoyment was sucked right out of us. We ended up leaving the museum pretty much right after viewing these painting. One right after the other was so disturbing and dark and lifelike. The paintings were mostly of little girls, soldiers, guns, blood, Micky Mouse and Donald Duck in very dark backgrounds. The eyes of these girls were so real! You saw the soul was ripped away from these girls, dead inside.

VAIL, Colo.—Last year, Vicki and Kent Logan made headlines when they announced a $60 million-plus bequest to the Denver Art Museum—the largest planned gift in the museum’s 113-year history. That gift includes a promise of the Logan house and the private 7,500-square-foot museum situated next door. The Colorado-based couple has been active on museum boards for many years and has donated extensively to the Denver museum, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

"In the first of two shows (the other at the Modernism Gallery in November), Helnwein's large format, photo-realist images of children of various demeanors boldly probed the subconscious. Innocence, sexuality, victimization and haunting self-possession surge and flicker in Helnwein's unnerving work."

I know his paintings since I was a little child and made my first steps in a museum- and for me he`s definitely the artist that evokes the most intensive feelings that I Know.

Mit seinen Malereien und Fotographien – die sich mit unterschiedlichen Reizthemen wie dem Nationalsozialismus, Kindesmisshandlungen oder Entfremdungszuständen auseinandersetzen – erntet er sowohl Zuspruch als auch Ablehnung. Der über zwei Jahre entstandene Dokumentarfilm von Claudia Schmid zeigt den Künstler als besonders ruhigen, einfühlsamen Menschen, der die Tendenzen der Gesellschaft mit hoher Präzision erfasst und in seinen Werken widerspiegelt. In ihrem ersten abendfüllenden Film zeigt sie durch stille Beobachtung und im persönlichen Gespräch, dass hinter dem Bild des Provokateurs Gottfried Helnwein ein Mann mit ausgeprägtem Gespür für das Zeitgeschehen und die Krankheiten unserer Gesellschaft steht, der auf eingängige und kompromisslose Weise darauf aufmerksam zu machen versteht. Ein aufschlussreiches und gelungenes Porträt.

Der in Wien geborene und heute meist in Irland lebende Künstler Gottfried Helnwein hat gleich mit seinen ersten öffentlichen Aktionen und Ausstellungen in den späten 60er und frühen 70er Jahren für Skandale gesorgt. Einmal mussten die zuständigen Kuratoren sogar seine Gemälde wieder abhängen lassen, um einen Streik der Angestellten zu verhindern. Mittlerweile ist Helnwein zwar im Mainstream des internationalen Kunstbetriebs angekommen – Arnold Schwarzenegger hat sich von ihm nach seiner Wahl zum Gouverneur von Kalifornien porträtieren lassen und zudem noch ein Landschaftspanorama bei ihm in Auftrag gegeben, das nun in einem Konferenzsaal in seinem (Noch-)Amtssitz in Sacramento hängt. Aber Helnweins hyperfotorealistische Bilder von bandagierten und geschundenen Kindern, von ermordeten und mordenden Mädchen polarisieren immer noch. Die Albträume, die sein Werk vor etwa 40 Jahren bei einem Wiener Kritiker ausgelöst hat, sind nicht Geschichte, sie können auch einen heutigen Betrachter verfolgen.

Gottfried Helnwein ist ein Künstler klarer Aussagen, ungezügelt und eigenwillig. Mit seinen hyperrealistischen Darstellungen gequälter Mädchen aus den 70er Jahren bis hin zu den Malereien und Fotografien von heute konfrontiert er uns mit den dunklen Seiten menschlicher Natur. Still aber schonungslos führt er die Leidensfähigkeit des Menschen am Schicksal des unschuldigen Kindes vor Augen und macht den Betrachter zum Mitwissenden und Mittäter bei Verletzung und Misshandlung.

مادر مشغول بسته بندی و پیچیدن کیک های شکلاتی بود که برای کمک به یتیم خانه خریده بود. سف، به پایین پله ها آمده و در همان راهرویی که به ناهار خوری منتهی می شد و مادر در آن کار می کرد، ایستاد. سف یک روز پیش تلاش کرده بود با یک ریسمان نازک خودش را دار بزند. گویا در یک موقعیت گیج کننده و یا یک لحظه ناامیدی قرار گرفته بود. حالا هم می خواست بداند برای این کاری که کرده به جهنم می رود یا نه. در حالی که مادر مشغول پیچیدن شکلات ها بود، سف هم به این مسئله فکر می کرد. مادر یک ریسمان کلفت را برداشت و گره را نشان داد و گفت: ببین سف! به این می گویند گره طناب دار!…… دفعه ی بعد که داری با طناب بازی می کنی، این یادت باشد.

Im Leben wie in Künstlerfilmen ist es meistens interessanter, einem Künstler bei der Arbeit zuzuschauen als ihn über seine Arbeit räsonieren zu hören. Claudia Schmid bietet in ihrem Porträt des österreichischen Malers Gottfried Helnwein beides im Überfluss: Während Helnwein mit feinem Pinsel letzte Hand an erstaunlich viele Gemälde legt, ist er beinahe ständig aus dem Off zu hören, um sein Werk, sein Leben und das mit beidem einhergehende „Skandalon“ zu kommentieren. Helnwein öffnet dabei bereitwillig die Türen seines Ateliers und erweist sich als ebenso versierter wie auskunftsfreudiger Interpret seines eigenen Schaffens.

Marilyn Manson’ın oldukça uzun bir zamandır beklenmekte olan filmi Phantasmagoria: The Visions of Lewis Carroll ‘a ait bir teaser sonunda yayınlandı. Görüntülerden anladığım kadarıyla rahatsız edici bir film olacağa benziyor. Filmde Alice Harikalar Diyarında hikayesinin yazarı Lewis Carroll’ın (Charles Lutwidge Dodgson) bilinmeyen yanları kurgusal olarak ele alınıyor. Marilyn Manson, Viktorya dönemi İngilteresinde, Alice adında bir kız hakkında sanrılar gören ve uykusuz geceler geçiren bir yazarın bölünmüş karakterini Roman Polanski tarzında bir psikolojik gerilim ile beyaz perdeye taşımayı düşünüyor.

Helnwein zählt zu den bekanntesten, aber auch umstrittensten deutschsprachigen Künstlern nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg. Bekannt wurde er vor allem durch seine hyperrealistischen Bilder von verwundeten und bandagierten Kindern. In seinem gesamten Schaffen setzt er sich mit den Themen Schmerz, Verletzung und Gewalt auseinander, und berührt dabei auch Tabu- und Reizthemen der jüngeren Geschichte. So wird insbesondere auch das Thema Nationalsozialismus in seinen Werken verarbeitet; im Zentrum seiner Arbeit steht aber vor allem die Darstellung des Kindes.

Isiklikult häirib mind Helnweini juures tema tuntus šokikunstnikuna. Šokk viitab justkui mingile lühiajalisele afektile, sisse raiutud rabavale tundele. Meenuvad haisevad menstruatsiooniverega maalitud feministamaalid ja reaalsed risti löödud rotikorjused. Helnweini teosed töötavad pikem pikaajalisema õõvastuse mehhanismiga, mida ma šokiks ei kutsuks. Maalimislaadi järgi võiks teda üldse kategoriseerida hüperrealistiks. Aga hüperrealist ta, eksju, ei ole sest hüperrealistid tegelesid selliste progressiivsete, oluliste ja eluliste teemadega nagu läikivad autod ja poefassaadid. Et siis kodanlik hüperrealism mitte, labane šokikunst ka mitte. Mina nimetaksin seda peeneks psühholoogiaks. Ja kindlasti ka ülikõvaks.

Su naturaleza deliberadamente provocativa inspirado en un discurso donde se manifiesta la verdadera naturaleza del horror. En ocasiones utilizando diversos periodos históricos acaecidos en el transcurso del siglo XX, sus fotografías tienen la capacidad de narrar historias en una instantánea.

Тем не менее, если в наш век массового пластикового искусства есть люди, достойные этого звания, то австрийский художник и фотограф Готфрид Хельнвайн - один из них. В эти дни Хельнвайн, который делит свое время между США и Ирландией, находится в Тель-Авиве, где по приглашению Израильского оперного театра работает над созданием декораций и костюмов к опере "Ребенок мечтает". Этим спектаклем Израильская опера открывает свой юбилейный 25 сезон, и важность нового проекта трудно переоценить. Основой для либретто оперы послужила пьеса Ханоха Левина, едва ли не самого значительного из израильских драматургов, музыку написал плодовитый израильский композитор Гиль Шохат, ставит спектакль главный режиссер Камерного театра Омри Ницан, художник по свету - Ави-Йона Буэно (Бамби), дирижирует художественный руководитель оперы Дэйвид Стерн, а Хельнвайн, чье имя знакомо израильтянам по яркой постановке "Кавалера роз" Штрауса, отвечает за визуальную сторону спектакля.
